Is Your Electrical Panel SAFE
There are many types of panels used across Chicago and the near sub-burbs and not all of them are safe. Its time to get serious about your families electrical safety, because your family deserves to have a safe electrical system.
Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) manufactured panels and breakers from the early 1950’s to the late 1980’s. A large number of homes and business built during and after this time had FPE equipment installed. Chicago Electricians and City electrical inspectors found out later that Federal Pacific Electrical panels and breakers did not provide home owners and there families with the proper electric protection. Electrical inspectors do say that many of these panels seem to be problem free, but all it would take is one overloaded breaker or a short in the circuit for there to be a major fire hazard in your home.
In a class action suit New Jersey court ruled against the Federal Pacific Electric Company for “violating the Consumer Fraud Act because FPE knowingly and purposefully distributed circuit breakers which were not tested to meet UL standards...” An expert stated that the potential hazards FPE panels tested under UL 489 test conditions, that the Federal Pacific Panels failed to shut down (trip) at a much higher rate than other panels. What this means is that the power will continue to travel threw the wire and toward a potential fire.
