Whole House Rewiring Service

When thinking about the safety and reliability of a home built before 1960, you have to take in consideration the electrical system. Your home is working all day, everyday, when it comes to the electrical system. Your refrigerator, heat or air conditioning, most of our appliances have some sort of lights on them. Think of dinner time and add a microwave or dishwasher to the mix, and it can be overwhelming to an outdated system. Most of the electronics we use on a daily basis were not even invented when our homes were built, and we keep adding to this outdated system.

Appliances and items that should have their own circuits

  • Microwaves
  • Washer & Dryer
  • Portable Heaters
  • Window Air Conditioner
  • Electric Tea Kettle
  • Bathrooms (Hair Dryer-Curling Iron)

Each time you have to reset your breaker or change a fuse, you run the risk of an electrical fault in your system. The breaker is doing its job letting you know you are overloading its voltage segment. After a breaker has been overloaded 3 times, its response time will diminish and can cause a dangerous situation.

Reasons to remove outdated cotton covered wire

  • Updating lighting fixtures
  • Replacing receptacle or switches
  • Adding new appliances
  • Issues with power loss or major flickering in lights

Every time you have a fixture installed with outdated wire, you run the risk of the insulation cracking and exposing bare conductors to each other or to your fixture. Most of the time these wires have been sitting untouched for 70+ years. When they are moved to install a new device, the insulation has dried making them brittle and  they become exposed. There is no going back once this happens, a temporary solution may be electrical tape but that is only temporary.

Reasons to be worried about a whole house rewire project

These are all valid reasons to delay a project like this. First, let’s talk about the cost; this project can be done all at once or in stages. This gives you the option to get started in sections of your home and move forward when it’s convenient for you. Your home will be right back to normal with a completely safe electrical system. Most of the work is done behind the scenes with no trace of damage. If it is necessary to cut into lath and plaster or drywall for any reason, we are trained to repair your wall or ceiling. When it comes to keeping your home clean, our technicians have drop cloths and zip walls to close off areas from dust. Also all of our trucks carry vacuums and swiffer wet jet cleaners, just in case it needs a little extra. From start to finish most of these jobs take about 3 consecutive days to complete. At the end of each day you will have power back to your home and can resume regular life.
